Gordon Cowan Memorial
One Friendship. One Promise.
A Legacy of Hope.
In 1997, Gordon Cowan lost his battle with cancer at just 25 years old. His close friend, Rab Douglas—former Celtic and Scotland goalkeeper—made a promise: Gordon would never be forgotten.
Together with the Lanark community, Rab and Gordon’s friends started a memorial golf day in his honour. That simple game of golf grew into an annual fundraising movement—including charity balls, sponsored walks, and community events—all dedicated to supporting the life-changing work of Beatson Cancer Charity.

Our Community
A Promise Made. A Legacy Remembered. A Community United.
The Gordon Cowan Memorial isn’t just about fundraising—it’s about people. It’s about friends who kept their promise, a community that never stopped showing up, and a family who knows Gordon will never be forgotten.
Since 2004, we’ve raised over £465,000 for Beatson Cancer Charity in Gordon’s name—proof of what love, friendship, and a small town with a big heart can achieve.
